The GRIT-Approved Grocery List

When it comes to your grocery shopping, we HOPE that most of your cart is filled with fresh fruit, veggies and lean meats. If you need to venture into the "middle aisles" for something in a package, here are some great picks that are very nutritious and great-tasting! We will keep this list updated with our favourites, or great new finds, but here's a good start:

Avocado Oil

The awesome thing about avocado oil is that it’s not only a superfood oil that can used in uncooked items like salads and dips, but it’s also highly recommended for cooking with one of the highest smoke points.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has a multitude of health benefits, which include but are not limited to skin care, hair care, improving digestion and immunity against a host of infections and diseases. It is also very useful for weight loss. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. Research suggests that coconut oil helps to reduce abdominal obesity in women. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and endocrine system.

Unsweetened Cashew, Almond or Coconut Milk

Consider cutting back on dairy milk in favour of an unsweetened nut milk which is lower in calories, and free of cholesterol, saturated fat and naturally lactose-free.

Local Raw Honey

Completely left in its natural state, local raw honey contains pollen, enzymes, antioxidants and many other beneficial compounds that researchers are just beginning to learn about.

100% Pure Maple Syrup

Pure maple syrup is an excellent sweetener to have on hand for baking or cooking needs.

Stonemill Flax & Chia Bread (Costco)

100% real ingredients, no added fat, sugar, dairy or soy, and it's absolutely delicious toasted, or cooked up as "nutritious" French Toast (2 eggs, 1 cup almond milk, vanilla and cinnamon to taste, fry up in coconut oil and top with either almond butter, pure maple syrup or honey).

White Linen Sauce (Costco)

This sauce is soooooo good and contains simple, real ingredients like tomatoes, onions, olive oil, salt, garlic and basil.

Steel-Cut Oats

A great way to start the day, these oats are a great source of fiber, iron and protein, and also gluten-free.

Luke's Multigrain & Seed Crackers (Costco)

These gluten-free, nut-free, organic, non-GMO, vegan crackers are surprisingly crisp and yummy! They make for a freat little snack.
